Migrating Servers and SQL Databases

Jonathan Semones -

The process of moving to a new server is fairly simple

Migrate Databases

  1. Backup the databases.
  2. Restore the backups onto the new SQL Server instance.

If you are NOT moving the Lucity Server installation:

  1. Go on a machine that has Lucity Desktop installed and look for the Client Maintenance program (this is only installed if they did a complete install) and a link can be found under the Start menu > Programs > Lucity > Admin Tools and point to the new SQL Server instance.
  2. Run Client Maintenance and point to the new SQL Server instance.
  3. Run the Lucity DSN Utility on each desktop machine and point to the new config folder. (this tool is found in the desktop install's bin folder and will repoint Lucity Desktop to the Lucity Server and SQL databases.).  It can be run silently as part of a script, so they can push the change out through active directory.
    • Note: You probably should run it on one machine and then check to make sure you can log into Lucity
    • Note: If you are upgrading at the same time uninstall the desktop and install the new desktop
  4. Uninstall and reinstall any of the following that you have: Lucity Web, Web Citizen, REST API's, Mobile Server.
    • Note: If you are upgrading at the same time just install the new versions.
  5. The process is complete.

If you are moving the Lucity Server installation:

  1. Make a copy of the Lucity Server's Config folder and Reports folder.
  2. On your new server create a 'LucityServer' folder at the location you want the server to reside.
  3. Make the new 'LucityServer' folder a network share.
  4. Put the copy of the Config and Reports folders in the new 'LucityServer' folder.
  5. Select the Setup.exe for the Lucity install.
  6. Click on Server/Database install and point it to the Config folder on the new server.
  8. Uninstall and reinstall any of the following that you have: Lucity Services, Lucity Web, Web Citizen, REST API's.
    • Note: If you are upgrading at the same time just install the new versions.
  9. The process is complete.

    • When you are upgrading the desktop application perform a uninstall and run through a new install of the Desktop Application.
  9. The process is complete.
